In a publicly released filing of their Form 10-K (annual report), Facebook reports impressive gains in usage by both monthly and daily users. Their 2012 numbers show increases not only in usage but puts into perspective how much stuff people put on Facebook.
If we start off with usage, Facebook saw monthly active users (MAUs) jump from 845 million in 2011 to 1.06 billion by the end of 2012. The entire population of the world is estimated at a little over 7 billion just to put that in perspective. Their daily active users (DAUs) jumped 28% from 483 million at the end of 2011 to 618 million by the end of 2012.
There were 680 million MAUs who used Facebook mobile products and over 150 billion friend connections. A remarkable 350 million photos per day were uploaded in Q4 and over 240 billion have been shared. There are also over 50 million (brand) pages with 10 or more likes.
Facebook currently employs over 4600 people worldwide. Love or hate Facebook, but you have to admin that those numbers are amazing. No wonder we usually see Mr. Zuckerberg smiling.
