With the launch of BlackBery 10 smartphones, the company started with aggressive changes. First they change the company's name to BlackBerry, and now they are evaluating markets. It seems that Japan is the first country to fell off due to allegedly high cost. According to BlackBerry, Japan is not a significant market, and they have no plans to launch BlackBerry 10 devices.
"We are in the process of launching BlackBerry 10 globally in key markets, and we are seeing positive demand for the BlackBerry Z10 in countries where it has already launched. Japan is not a serious market for BlackBerry, and we have no plans to launch BlackBerry 10 devices there at this time. However, we will continue to support BlackBerry customers in Japan," said BlackBerry in a statement.
Others say this is due to market share shrink as BlackBerry's smartphones has never been popular in Japan as in other countries. After seeing it shrink from 5% to just 0.3$, the company decided to give up. This does not mean that BlackBerry is entirely out from Japanese market. Current BlackBerry owners will continue to get support from the company.
