Gabe Newell Responds to Speculation Following Lay-offs

Gabe Newell released a statement junking speculations that were rife earlier this week following lay-offs in the company. Valve laid off a few employees recently, which includes the head of its teething hardware department, Jeri Ellsworth. It has been speculated following Ellsworth's departure that he fabled Steambox game console project may have suffered a jolt, or maybe it's even been shelved. Newell stated:

"We don't usually talk about personnel matters for a number of reasons. There seems to be an unusual amount of speculation about some recent changes here, so I thought I'd take the unusual step of addressing them. No, we aren't canceling any projects. No, we aren't changing any priorities or projects we've been discussing. No, this isn't about Steam or Linux or hardware or [insert game name here]. We're not going to discuss why anyone in particular is or isn't working here."

What the man said. Steam for Linux, Steambox, or any game titles are completely unaffected by departure of a few employees. Steam for Linux is already in business as an open beta, while Steambox is scheduled for later this year.
