Thought you needed to trade smartphone features for ruggedness with something like Kyocera's DuraPro flip-phone? A fan of Caterpillar merchandise who wishes the wife could approve of a bulldozer? Try the next best thing from the company, the CAT B15 smartphone. The phone may not boast of US military specifications, but could still be a roughneck's best friend.
The CAT B15 can withstand 5.9-foot (1.8 m) drops, and stay immersed in 3.3-foot (1 m) water for 30 minutes; thanks to its chassis built of rubber and aluminum. It can withstand temperature ranges between -4°F (-20°C) and 122°F (50°C).
Its 4-inch screen features a WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) resolution, under its hood is a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core SoC, 512 MB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel primary camera. Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" is at the helm. Its ruggedness comes at a premium, $430.
