On Monday, Mozilla has announced Firefox OS for smartphones as an alternative to Android. The Firefox OS is an open source OS that uses HTML5-based applications and Mozilla's CEO Gary Kovacs has already showed its capabilities. A mere couple of days after announcing it, Sony has released preliminary ROM for its Xperia E smartphone.
The ROM can be installed by developers and enthusiasts and according to the company's Developer World blog post, this experimental Firefox OS ROM is released just to show the current progress of the Firefox OS project. Sony has also released a video demonstrating the OS on the Xperia E smartphone.
