Metro: Last Light Release Dates Announced

Metro: Last Light is slated for a mid-May 2013 release, with its new publisher Deep Silver announcing region-specific release dates. In the Americas (North America, Latin America), the game will be released on May 14; in the EU, including Deep Silver's home market UK, it will arrive on May 17. Versions for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, will be released on the same dates.

A sequel to the hit post-apocalyptic first-person shooter Metro: 2033, which brought Ukranian developer 4A Games to the fore, Metro: Last Light will make for a highly anticipated AAA game launch, for two reasons - first, its predecessor filled a void created by the STALKER franchise, that of a post-apocalyptic survivor horror in an Eastern Europe/Russia/Soviet setting; and second, the game effectively is THQ's "last light," which went under in late January due to a financial meltdown, despite an impressive Humble Bundle campaign to raise cash.

The spoiler-safe premise of Metro: Last Light was released by Deep Silver:

In the year 2034, a nuclear war has turned the world into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. In Moscow, the tunnels of the Metro have become a new home for the former inhabitants of the city. Within the catacombs, they fight for their survival, fending off hordes of hideous mutants born from the toxic atmosphere, as well as other factions desperate to take control of what little hospitable land remains. As they fight, they also search for a doomsday device that could be the key to their victory. A civil war is inevitable. During these dark hours, the players will embody Artyom, and become the last light for all of mankind.

Commenting on the release dates, Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media (parent firm of Deep Silver) said "The new release date is the ideal way to strike the balance between bringing the best out of Metro: Last Light and not keep the fans waiting longer than necessary," adding "We won't leave that time unexploited and will work closely together with 4A Games to make the game even better. It will receive all the attention it deserves."
