Nikon Outs Entry-level S3500 Camera with VR

Nikon is trying out some strange hardware combinations with its new point-and-shooters announced today. The second of these, after the DX-format capable Coolpix A, is the more conventional-looking Coolpix S3500. Armed with a 20.1-megapixel CCD sensor, the compact camera features lens-shift optical image stabilization, which Nikon markets as simply "Vibration Reduction." It actively works to stabilize shooting so you can finally get pics from Friday-nighters that doesn't qualify as "modern art."

Apart from the 20.1 MP CCD sensor, the Coolpix S3500 features a 7X, f/3.4-6.4 telescopic zoom lens. Its tiny 320 x 240-pixel interface provides you basic in-camera image editing. The camera is capable of 720p video recording, which pretty much wraps things up. The S3500 is available in five body color options: silver, red, purple, orange, and pink. For $140, one can't really complain about what's on offer.

Today, Nikon Inc. introduced the compact COOLPIX S3500, an affordable yet stylish point-and-shoot ready to help users easily capture high-quality images and HD videos. Compact enough for travel without sacrificing performance, Nikon's newest S-series addition supports the simple capture of beautiful, sharp images in a wide variety of settings, from indoors to out on the town. The COOLPIX S3500 offers an upgraded feature set that includes a new 20.1-megapixel sensor, a 7x optical zoom NIKKOR lens and lens-shift Vibration Reduction (VR) technology to help to ensure vibrant and sharp images.

"Nikon's budget friendly COOLPIX lineup provides the shooting capabilities and feature sets needed to preserve every memory, while also offering convenience and affordability. The new COOLPIX S3500 is the ideal choice for the stylish, on-the-go consumer that never wants to miss a moment," said Bo Kajiwara, Vice President of Marketing, Planning and Customer Experience.
