Sony Unveils Xperia SP And Xperia L

Sony launched today two new smartphones, the Xperia SP and Xperia L. The latest Android Xperia smartphones are intended for low to mid-range audience. Both of the phones come with almost the same rumoured specifications, so there was not much in terms of surprises. Along with the announcement, both of the smartphones have already been priced in Europe.

Sony Xperia L is a low-end smartphone that stands out primarily with its camera capability. The phone is built around a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels and a scratch-resistant cover glass. It has a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8230 chipset featuring two Krait cores, 8 GB of internal storage and a 1,900 mAh battery.

There is an 8-megapixel camera with an Exmor RS sensor that is used on the Xperia Z flagship, which enables cool features like HDR mode while shooting photos or video. In terms of connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G HSPA connectivity are supported, but there is no NFC support. Sony Xperia L runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will be available in black, white or black.

Sony Xperia SP is mid-range smartphones that also runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Under the 4.6-inch 720p Bravia Engine 2 LCD, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960Pro SoC, which comes with dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.7GHz and an Adreno 320 GPU. On the back side of its aluminum body, the Xperia SP features the same 8-megapixel camera found on Xperia Z and Xperia L phones.

It measures 130.6 x 67.1 x 9.98 mm and weighs 155g with 2,370 mAh battery. With its Stamina battery mode, Sony claims the phone offers a long lasting battery life. Unlike the Xperia L, the handset comes with NFC One-Touch technology along with 4G LTE connectivity.

The Xperia SP is priced at around €419 while Xperia L will carry a price tag of €299 in Germany. Both of the phones cost about €20 less in Netherlands. Both of the phones will be available in the second quarter of 2013.
