Tweet editing could be on the way, but the social network needs to figure out how it should be implemented. To close out the year, CEO Jack Dorsey polled users on what features they want to see added in 2017. Editable tweets was a common request and one Dorsey responded positively to.
Dorsey asked some users about the specifics of editing. Twitter needs to figure out how long people should be allowed to edit and how to handle changes on the backend.
If people can edit whenever they like, that means retweets would presumably be altered as well, which could easily cause problems.

I'm listening. And what do you want from edit? Quickly fix mistakes or edit anytime?— jack (@jack) December 29, 2016
