The first satellite from Ghana to ever reach space was carried beyond Earth by SpaceX a couple months ago. A cubesat from a team at Ghana's All Nations University was aboard one of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rockets in June and it was delivered to the International Space Station.
After reaching the ISS, the GhanaSat-1 was sent into orbit in July. Richard Damoah, the project's manager, says the satellite is currently functioning properly. It's sending a signal to a station at the All Nations University Space Systems and Technology Lab.
This particular satellite has two missions...It has cameras on board for detailed monitoring of the coastlines of Ghana. Then there's an educational piece―we want to use it to integrate satellite technology into high school curriculum, - Damoah
