US Government Allocating $3M Annually To Berkeley Lab For Quantum Computing Work

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, commonly known as Berkeley Lab, is receiving $3 million per year from the Department of Energy for its quantum computing research. That money is going to research that could "solve some of science's hardest problems."

Funding from the federal government is being split in half, with part going to hardware and part going to software. Funding will be renewed every five years for hardware and every three years for software.

While the hardware group focuses on building a physical quantum computer, the software division is working on algorithms and programming for the computer.
