Qualcomm says it has successfully tested a 5G data connection with its Snapdragon X50 5G modem chipset for the first time. The prototype test worked the first time it was tried. It delivered a speed of 1.25 Gbps in the 28 GHz millimeter wave frequency band. According to Qualcomm, the tech should deliver up to 5 Gbps when it's complete.
5G is very important for Qualcomm and the company is investing heavily to make sure it's leading the industry during the transition to that wireless standard.
It anticipates being able to come out with 5G tech for smartphones and networks in the first half of 2019.
