MediaTek obviously can't touch Qualcomm when it comes to high-end market, but the company has pretty decent chipsets for entry-level and mid-range devices. The company is now preparing a new chipset that would battle with Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 660 Lite that is expected to sell for $15.
The new Helio P40 chipset is expected to be built on TSMC's 12nm architecture and is going to be one of the most power-efficient chipsets on the market. Another good news for the Chinese company is the low cost of the chipset, which should sell for around $11-12.
MediaTek hopes this chipset will push them towards a 25% market share next year, after it slipped down to 15% this year.
