Twitter has admitted it accidentally inflated user growth figures for three years. In its quarterly earnings report, the company says it discovered it had been including Digits users in its monthly user figure. Digits was the social network's developer toolkit.
Individuals who used Digits's SDK following its launch in October 2014 may have been counted in the user tally.
Because of this revelation, Twitter has revised its quarterly user stats from late 2016 onward down by 1-2 million people. It can't adjust older figures because it lacks the necessary data.
