Senator Wants Tech Companies To Weaponize The Internet In Fight Against Russia

In order for Silicon Valley to make up for letting their platforms become home to large amounts of Russian propaganda, Senator Mitch McConnell believes they should help the US government "retaliate." He said companies like Facebook and Twitter could give the government a way to fight back.

Exactly how social media platforms would weaponize the internet under McConnell's proposal isn't clear. He brought up the possibility following a week of Senate Intelligence Committee hearings featuring Facebook, Twitter, and Google. McConnell wasn't pleased about the CEOs of those companies deciding not to make an appearance.

He believes the companies involved should be "more interested in cooperating with law enforcement than they have been."

McConnell's stance seems to be breaking away from the mainstream talking point, which is that tech companies need to better police their ad networks.
