Facebook's Express Wi-Fi service will grow in Nigeria through a partnership with Tizeti, a startup using solar-powered towers to improve the country's internet access. Express Wi-Fi involves Facebook working with local ISPs, carriers, and businesses to expand wireless internet access, particularly in underserved regions.
Tizeti's new partnership with the company will grow the availability of affordable public WiFi hotspots in outdoor areas, markets, cafes, and other locations. Express Wi-Fi is available for all WiFi-ready devices capable of receiving a one-time SMS. Access plans range from $0.16 for 100 MB to $6.50 for 10 GB.
Together, the companies will bring hundreds of hotspots to locations around Nigeria over the next few months.
