Availability of T-Mobile's gigabit LTE has more than doubled, bringing it to upwards of 430 markets. Further, LTE Advanced is now available in 920 markets. Although that doesn't offer gigabit speeds, it still offers faster service than a typical LTE connection.
These updates were shared in conjunction with an event on Friday from Qualcomm and T-Mobile. Although the "availability" figure is important, a region's access to the necessary technology doesn't mean all consumers can benefit from those speeds.
At the event, T-Mobile demonstrated how a gigabit-ready Galaxy S8 could receive a download speed of 611.83 Mbps and an upload speed of 47.35 Mbps with this technology.
Only some phones support gigabit LTE, such as the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+, the Galaxy Note 8, the Galaxy S8 Active, the Moto Z Force Edition and the LG V30/V30+.
