Due to some uncertainty caused by the election of Donald Trump, The Internet Archive has announced it will build a Canadian copy of its library. It has begun accepting donations for the Internet Archive of Canada, which will store billions of pieces of content.
Mozilla is trying out a new feature on its Test Pilot platform that replaces 404s with archived versions of webpages. While you won't be seeing the latest content from the site, Firefox will at least show you something other than a largely useless error page.
The Wayback Machine, a tool that lets people view archived versions of web pages, is going to be modernized in 2017. Using a grant from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation, The Internet Archive is going to rebuild the entire tool and "improve the scope and quality" of pages.
